The Megatech Fantail Flyer, super sleek design for first time flying enjoyment. Megatech Freedom Flyer, all the right stuff for beginners. Venom Micro Drone  can fly in and outdoors, designed to take the bumps and bruises of learning to fly. Megatech Avion IO BIPlane is perfect for the first time pilot and comes ready to fly. These are just a few of the planes available; there are many others to choose from.

Here are a few tips for beginners and seasoned pilots as well.

  • It does not matter what type of plane you choose as long as you follow this simple tip. Make sure you buy only the best parts and equipment that you can afford. You can choose either a trainer, sport, fun-fly, or scale. Remember you want the most for your money. We have assembled the best overall combination of planes, radios, chargers, etc. to get you headed in the right direction.
  • It is very important for you to get help when you start out. Many people try to start alone, only to end up with a very short interest in modeling. The difference between a fun flying adventure and disaster is an experienced pilot. Some aircraft are complicated, so ask questions, models are not toys.
  • Double and triple check your model to make sure everything is tight, straight, secure and. balanced. Models have a number of vibrating parts that should be checked before every flight. Make sure that all flying surfaces are tight with minimal gap and slop. Always use top quality hardware! Balancing is critical and one of the critical steps in preparing for you first flight. If you don’t get it right, your airplane will not track straight. Everything may look straight but if you are tracking correctly, balancing is your problem. Your airplane does not have any features to make up for improper balance! You can use string or something similar, attaching one length too the bottom center of the rear fuselage and another piece onto the crankshaft of the engine. Remove the prop and spinner. If your plane is out of balance, i.e., one wing out weighs the other, add weight to the lighter wing tip until the airplane is evenly balanced. You probably will not need much weight!
  • High quality components and superior construction methods have made today’s radio control systems very reliable. The difference in brands have closed to the point that most important  factor’s are the extra features offered on the higher priced radios.
  • Have the proper tools and supplies to construct your model. A straight edge, flat work table, quality adhesives, spare glow plugs, screwdrivers and other tools can make a big difference. You want a professional look and these tools will make it easier. For emergency situations at the air field, they can be very useful.
  • Pre-read all assembly manuals, plans and safety sheets thoroughly before you attempt to start construction. You should pre-fit all joints before using adhesives; each type of material requires a different adhesive.
  • Join the national or your state aero modeling society. Join a RC flying club in your area, the friendship, knowledge and expertise you will find here outweighs the cost of membership. The insurance coverage that comes with most memberships really comes in handy in case you have an accident. This is a very important part of responsible modeling and flying.
  • Safety, safety, safety practice it. Beware of those around you. Spectators should always be kept at a safe distance. Fly well away from others and their property; sanctioned fields are your best bet. Read the national safety rules and the rules of your club. Follow these rules; they are for your safety and the safety of others. Check out all of your equipment and do range checks of your radio equipment before you fly. This can save you money and time.
  • The purpose of this hobby is to enjoy yourself and have fun! Be courteous to pilots and observers alike and you will be surprised at the friendships’ and help you will receive. After you gain some experience try to learn new things and new tricks. This is very useful if you want to show off for the crowd. Be willing to share your experience with others as this is part of the modeling spirit. Read magazines and books, join RC forums and find out all you can. This will make you a better builder and pilot. Hopefully, these tips will help you get started in the right direction. May you have many Happy Landings!!
